Our Story

Insights from Families and Supplementary Schools

Prior to the birth of Educators’ Hub21, the team collaborated with other organisations on a community-based research project to understand Muslim families’ responses to the changes in sex education in schools. This earlier research aimed to map out how Muslim families interacted with cultural aspects of mainstream education and to produce recommendations for policymakers to enhance inclusiveness. Through focus groups and semi-structured interviews with community leaders, the team identified the significant yet underutilised role of supplementary schools in bridging the gap between home culture on one hand and mainstream school culture on the other, for thousands of children from minority communities.

Building on this insight, the team then conducted more focused research specifically on supplementary schools, which led to the conception of Educators’ Hub21 from real engagement and understanding.

Research and Consultation

The launch of Educators’ Hub21 followed four months of research involving interviews with school leaders and teachers, as well as a documentation review. Findings revealed challenges and opportunities for supplementary schools, and the launch conference served to present recommendations, discuss data, and propose practical solutions.

It aims to be a reliable hub for professional development, collaboration, and innovation in Arabic teaching supplementary education.

On March 9, 2025, the International Forum for Islamic Dialogue -IFID launched the Educators’ Hub21 in a one day conference in London, focusing on Arabic Supplementary Education. The conference gathered teachers, school principals, curriculum specialists, and community leaders from the UK, whose insights helped shape the Hub’s vision and laid the foundation for future endeavors.
